Age Categories

A player’s age category is determined by the year in which the player was born and registers for, and comprises players who have not attained their birthday in the division they fall within. (ie: A player who has not attained their 11th birthday in the calendar year will be classified as a U11 player. Birth Years are listed below for clarify)

Our soccer program has been organized to align with Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards - with the exception that our age categories may be combined to realize adequate numbe rof players for an age group. Feel free to familiarize yourself with the Canada Soccer Grassroots Standards.

It is our objective to realize fair play for all players, and based on feedback from our members we are attempting to re-organize the grouping of our age categories to limit the age span to a maximum of 2 years. The new age span grouping is dependent upon sufficient registration. Historically, registrations for ages above U13 have been limited and therefore this could result in a 3 year age span within this group.

The standard Summer program information is displayed here, outlining the format tailored to different age groups and program inclusions. Age groupings adhere to BC Soccer Guidelines, which supersede any details provided herein.

FUNdamentals (U8 - U9)

The BC Soccer grassroots fundamental age group objectives focus on nurturing a love for the game and developing fundamental skills in young players. These objectives include fostering enjoyment and participation, teaching basic technical skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, introducing basic tactical concepts, emphasizing fair play and sportsmanship, and promoting a positive learning environment that encourages creativity and experimentation. The overall aim is to provide a solid foundation for future soccer development while prioritizing fun and enjoyment for players.

New to TYSA for the 2024 season is our objective to align with the Canada Soccer grassroots program and introduce the U8 age category to a larger field of play while enabling additional focus on fundamental skill development.

REGISTER TODAY FOR LEARN TO TRAIN

Soccer for Life (U14-U15)

"Soccer for Life" typically refers to the stage in soccer development that follows the Learn to Train phase. It encompasses programs designed for players of all ages, including adolescents, adults, and seniors, who continue to participate in soccer for recreational, fitness, social, and competitive purposes. This stage is characterized by a focus on lifelong participation, enjoyment of the game, and personal development rather than elite performance.

TYSA registration numbers have typically been low for these age categories, however, there are still many active players who which to participate in soccer as an organized sport. It is our intention to continue to support this age group and hopefully revitalize the number of players in coming years.
